Description

The ALFA Archives includes the organizational records of ALFA as well as other southern radical women's groups. The extensive subject files in ALFA's archives provide information about regional resources on subjects such as women's spirituality and creativity, Jewish women, women and religion, and spirituality and women. There are also files on organizations such as the Evangelical Women's Caucus, Bet Haverim: A Synagogue for the Lesbian and Gay Community, Integrity, the Metropolitan Community Church, and Presbyterians for Lesbian and Gay Concerns.

Hist/Bio Note

The Atlanta Lesbian Feminist Alliance (ALFA) was founded in 1972 by a group of radical lesbians, who broke away from Atlanta's Women's Liberation Center to more fully address the issues facing lesbians. ALFA is one of the oldest lesbian feminist organizations in the United States. Deeply concerned to preserve herstory, ALFA maintained the Southern Feminist Library and Archives (SFLA), containing feminist, lesbian, and activist periodicals, books, and subject files. ALFA disbanded in 1994 after over 20 years of Southern feminist activism.
