Description

This collection documents the lives of partners Kittredge Cherry and Audrey Lockwood, including their work in the Metropolitan Community Church. The collection is arranged into six series: Biographical, Publications, MCC, Donor Notes, Artifacts, and Audiovisuals. The Iowa Women’s Archives also houses books written by Kittredge Cherry.

Hist/Bio Note

Rev. Kittredge Cherry is a lesbian Christian author, minister and art historian who offers gay-friendly spiritual resources at JesusInLove.org. Audrey Lockwood works as a financial planner in Los Angeles, writes poetry, and is involved with businesswomen’s organizations. Lockwood and Cherry joined the Metropolitan Community Church in San Francisco in the 1980s and had a church wedding ceremony in 1987. Cherry was ordained by MCC two years later and was at the forefront of the homosexuality debates at the National Council of Churches (USA) and at the World Council of Churches as MCC’s National Ecumenical Officer.
