First Church of One Brotherhood Collection
Span Dates: 1956-1976
Volume: 1 folder
This collection consists of a membership card, event programs, publicity material, flyers, clippings and other material documenting activities of the First Church of One Brotherhood (FCOB), 1956-1976. The collection also includes correspondence and liturgical literature produced by the First Church, as well as clippings of retrospective articles about the short-lived church, written by Jim Kepner.
The First Church of One Brotherhood was established in 1956 by Charles (Chuck) D. Rowland, a co-founder of the Mattachine Society and a member of ONE, Inc. The non-denominational church was intended to address the spiritual needs of religious gay men; its literature also outlined an early, ambitious program of social services for the gay and lesbian community.
An online finding aid is available through the Online Archives of California.
