This collection includes correspondence and articles concerning the planned picket by Fred Phelps and the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeka, Kan. of HUC-JIR's Cincinnati campus in Feb. 2003 because of the Reform Jewish movement's acceptance of gay and lesbian marriages and rabbis.

Hist/Bio Note

The Jewish Reform movement has accepted gay civil unions since 1996 and ordination of lgbtq rabbis beginning in 1990. Westboro Baptist Church has sponsored pickets of a wide range of identities and behaviors it labels "unchristian."
