Description

A photocopy of a printed letter to Dr. I. Reed Payne of the Psychology Department of Brigham Young University. The letter responds to a lecture on homosexuality delivered in his psychology class, January, 1978. The lecture discussed the nature of homosexuality as currently understood by researchers, and the policies of the LDS church toward homosexuals. The letter described homosexuality as a state of being, not of moral choice.

Hist/Bio Note

n Spring of 1977 Dr. Reed Payne touched on the subject of homosexuality in a lecture to his beginning Psychology class at Brigham Young University, Those present included Lee Williams who subsequently anonymously published a 52-page letter explaining what it was like to be gay. At the time Williams was an instructor at BYU.
