Description

The Minnesota Historical Society holds three collections pertaining to Leo Treadway--the Treadway Papers, the Treadway oral history interview, and photographs of a Pride festival taken by Treadway. The Leo Treadway Papers document the internal operations, management, and finances of Lutherans Concerned and other organizations that Treadway led. Topics include civil rights legislation, violence and hate crimes, acceptance of homosexuality within the major religious denominations, and AIDS. Materials include correspondence, agendas, bylaws, minutes, financial reports, notes, newsletters, brochures, miscellaneous printed matter, and newspaper clippings. Some portions are restricted until 2004. The second Leo Treadway collection at the Minnesota Historical Society consists of an oral history interview included in the Twin Cities Gay and Lesbian Community Oral History Project. Another collection, listed as "Treadway, Leo. GLBT Pride Festival, Loring Park, 1994 [graphic]" consists of 41 photographs taken by Treadway. The oral history and photographic collections can be found in the Minnesota State Historical Society sound and visual collections.

Hist/Bio Note

Leo Treadway was involved with numerous secular and religious organizations dedicated to the advancement of gay rights and human justice issues in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His work with the Interfaith Council represent some of the significant ecumenical church work done by the LGBT community.
