Description

The collection consists primarily of the records of Rev. Robert Wheatly, director from 1977-1986. These records include subject files that document the national movement for the rights of sexual minorities. They include administrative, legislative, and conference records. It also includes records which document the efforts of other religious denominations and their LGBT organizations to support their gay members. Wheatly collected newsletters of gay organizations from across the United States.

Hist/Bio Note

The Unitarian Universalist Association Office of Lesbian and Gay Concerns (OLGC) began as the Office of Gay Concerns in 1974. It resulted from the lobbying efforts of the UU Gay Caucus, founded by Richard Nash and Elgin Glair in 1971. It acted as a resource for the UUA and the general public, with a mission to eliminate discrimination against gays, promote understanding, and foster equal opportunity.
